An award winning American artist holds an exhibition in Sherfield-on-Loddon, Hook this March. Marjorie Collins, who is known for her floral still life paintings, will exhibit 30 of her watercolours at Sherfield Gallery at Sherfield School from Friday, March 16 when there is a private view from 6 to 7pm. The exhibition then runs until April 19. Viewing is by appointment from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
“One of my favourite paintings in the exhibition is A Passion for Peppers,”(pictured above) says Marjorie, who lives in Oxford. “It was inspired by the colourful assortment of peppers I saw in the supermarket – in fact when I was looking at them, I ran into a friend who asked ‘are you going to cook or paint these?’ I replied that by the time I would be finished painting them, they would not be fit for cooking or eating.” Marjorie likes to paint reflections and has a large collection of metal bowls. She will often combine one or more with colourful food backed by a complimentary fabric usually geometric in pattern.
