Hampshire Artist Wins Prestigious National Competition

Professional artist Claire Wiltsher from Hampshire has won an important national competition.

She has received the Artists and Illustrators Artist of the Year 2018 award for her painting Spatial Connection 3(pictured in full below), measuring 120 x 120cm.

There were 2,400 entries and Claire’s painting was selected from 50 that were shortlisted. It will be on display at The Mall galleries, London until February 24.

“My work was probably one of the few more abstract styles on display,” says a shocked Claire, who received £1,000, a set of handmade brushes and a solo show at Panter and Hall gallery, London.

Claire’s land and seascape paintings capture the dynamic light effects of weather as well as exploring the drama and many facets of nature. Her style links a sound knowledge of traditional landscape painting with contemporary ideas. She has worked as a lecturer of art as well as painting. For the past five years she has only focused on her painting, working from her studio in her Lyndhurst garden.
